BS in Computer Science

As a CS major, you will acquire technical skills and learn the tools and concepts needed to develop meaningful and relevant information systems that synthesize software, networking, data communications, hardware, data resources, system management and people.

Most of our courses are offered as hyflex (hybrid) courses with in person meetings at a reduced capacity adhering to social distancing and other protocols. We are designing our Fall courses with the capability to fully go online as well if there is a need to do so.

Our program is the only B.S in Computer Science degree program in the state that offers an emphasis on mainframe computer technologies in its curriculum. We have been offering them for more than 10 years. The exposure to the mainframe skills through our courses has enabled our students to do well in the Master the Mainframe (MTM) competition offered annually by IBM. A combination of skills gained from the courses we offer and the student performances on the MTM competitions have enabled our graduates to find placement in Fortune 500 companies such as IBM, Fidelity Investments, Bank of America, Visa, Broadcom Inc., Texas Instruments and more.

Affordability

College of Engineering (COE) at WT has a history of addressing the STEM workforce supply challenges in the Texas Panhandle region. COE currently runs two NSF funded S-STEM scholarship programs to support entering freshman and transfer students. The objectives and outcomes listed in these programs aligns well with WT’s mission and vision statement as well as the President’s WT 125 initiative. Through the support we have been successfully increasing the quantity, quality, and diversity of STEM graduates at WT by providing financial and academic support to students facing financial, social, and academic barriers.
